The poetic context of the word "desert": the linguistic aspect (based on the material of Russian fiction of the 18th-20th centuries)

Abstract

В работе рамках лингвопоэтического подхода рассматривается поэтический потенциал и поэтическая реализация слова «пустыня» в текстах русской художественной литературы XVIII–XX вв. Лексикографический анализ слова позволяет выделить пять семантических бинарных оппозиций, заложенных в слове «пустыня». В рамках данных оппозиций исследуется поэтическое окружение слова как фактор, способствующий актуализации затемненных сем в семантическом синкретизме слова. Анализ показывает, что образ пустыни оценивается в литературе как позитивно, так и негативно и зависит от литературной традиции и литературной эпохи. Образ часто встраивается в религиозный контекст, сопровождается темой поиска, мотивами страха и одиночества, а также пересекается с другими образами, такими как бездна, сад, океан. Исследование позволяет сделать вывод о том, что пустыня является важной частью русского языкового сознания и одним из архетипических пространств русской культуры.

Within the framework of the linguopoetic approach, the author examines the poetic potential and poetic realization of the word "desert" in the texts of Russian fiction of the 18th – 20th centuries. Lexicographic analysis of the word allows us to single out five semantic binary oppositions embedded in the word "desert". Within the framework of these oppositions, the poetic context of the word is investigated as a factor contributing to the actualization of obscured semes in the semantic syncretism of the word. The analysis shows that the image of the desert is assessed in literature both positively and negatively and depends on the particular literary tradition. The image is often embedded in a religious context, accompanied by the theme of search, motives of fear and loneliness, and also intersects with other images, such as the abyss, garden, ocean. Сurrent reserch proves that the desert is a sufficient part of the Russian linguistic consciousness and one of the archetypal spaces of Russian culture.
