Literature and ecology: J. M. G. Le Clézio’s novels

Abstract

В данной работе было рассмотрено творчество французского писателя Ж.М. Г. Леклезио. На примере романов «Пустыня» и «Онича» была раскрыта тема природы и экологии в литературной деятельности автора. В исследовании был использован подход экокритики, который является наиболее адекватным для изучения произведений на экологическую тему. Леклезио описывает природу как живое существо, наделяя ее душой, придавая ей человеческий образ, при этом автор использует прием персонификации. Одной из основных тем романа является противопоставление цивилизации и природы. Пространство города всегда имеет отрицательную характеристику, а природа целительна для человека, даже несмотря на трудности жизни в естественной среде. Описание города сопровождается вызывающими страх образами нищеты и насилия, в то же время, изображая воду, свет и ветер, Леклезио показывает красоту природы и её значимость для человека. Экология, защита и сохранение природы - это темы, которые Леклезио ставит на первое место в своём творчестве.

In this work, the creativity of the French writer J.M.G. Leclezio was considered. On the example of the novels “The Desert” and “Onitsha”, the theme of nature and ecology in the literary activity of the author was revealed. The study used an ecocriticism approach, which is the most appropriate for the study of works on an environmental theme. Leclezio describes nature as a human being, endowing it with a soul, giving it a human image, while the author uses the method of personification. One of the main themes of the novel is the opposition between civilization and nature. The space of the city always has a negative characteristic, and nature is healing for a person, even despite the difficulties of living in a natural environment. The description of the city is accompanied by fearful images of poverty and violence, while at the same time, depicting water, light and wind, Leclezio shows the beauty of nature and its importance to humans. Ecology, protection and conservation of nature - these are the themes that Leclezio puts in the first place in his work.
