Reflection of the aesthetic and spiritual distinctness of Islamic graphic art: A case study of Arabic calligraphy in St. Petersburg architecture of the 19th-20th centuries.

Abstract

The thesis is concerned with the reflection of aesthetic and spiritual distinctness of Islamic graphic art by the example of Arabic calligraphy in St.Petersburg architechture of 19-20th centuries. The aim of the paper is to explore the spiritual and aesthetic meaning of Islamic ornament and to bring to the light its impact on the architecture of the city that, at first glance, is not directly connected with Islamic culture. It shows how the architecture of Saint Petersburg was effected by it and what impact it had on the usage of oriental ornament in the decor of its edifices. It is mentioned in the paper that Arabic calligraphy serves as a medium for artistic and religious expression of beauty not only in Islamic world, but also beyond its limits, therefore, leading to multicultural communication and integration of different cultural worlds regardless of their diversity. The mediatory role of Arabic calligraphy provides people of different cultural background with the source of the sacred beauty and, therefore, unites them.

Данная дипломная работа направлена на рассмотрение духовного и эстетического своеобразия исламского графического искусства на примере арабской каллиграфии, использованной в архитектуре Санкт-Петербурга 19-20 вв. Целью исследования является изучение сакрального и художественного значения исламского орнамента и его влияния на архитектуру города, который не связан с исламской культурой напрямую. Работа показывает, как она повлияла на архитектуру Санкт-Петербурга и на декоративное убранство его зданий. В работе также отмечено. что арабская каллиграфия служит в качестве основного средства художественного и религиозного выражения чувства прекрасного не только в арабо-мусульманском мире способствуя ,таким образом, выстраиванию межкультурного диалога. Благодаря своей медиативной функции арабская каллиграфия привносит божественную красоту в жизнь разных народов, способствуя их интеграции.
