Stylistic role of the proverb in the transnational prose of the Czech writers Milan Kundera, and Josef Škvorecký

Abstract

В настоящей работе рассматриваются особенности использования пословиц и их компонентов в текстах чешских писателей эмигрантов на материале романов «Nesmrtelnost» [Бессмертие] (1987) Милана Кундеры и «Příběh inženýra lidských duší» [История инженера человеческих душ] (1977) Йозефа Шкворецкого.

Цель работы - определение стилистической функции пословицы в чешской транснациональной прозе. В ходе исследования был применён метод дескриптивного анализа, компонентного анализа и лингвостилистического анализа.

Актуальность работы заключается в том, что на данный момент существует крайне небольшое количество исследований, в которых бы паремиологический подход применялся к изучению текстов авторов с гибридной идентичностью.

Исследование включает в себя три раздела. Работу открывает глава, в которой рассмотрены особенности пословицы как единицы отдельного языкового уровня и её значимость в области лингвокультурологии. Следующие два раздела посвящены анализу паремиологических единиц в каждом из романов и определению их стилистической роли в тексте.

Результатом исследования стала характеристика пословиц в романах, выведение закономерностей их употребления, а также вывод о том, что национальная самоидентификация автора играет важную роль в выборе языковых средств, отражающих зафиксированные в языковой картине мира образы и стереотипы.

Current paper is dedicated to the features of the use of proverbs and their components in the texts of Czech emigrant writers. The research is based on the novels “Nesmrtelnost” [Immortality] (1987) by Milan Kundera and “Příběh inženýra lidských duší” [The Engineer of Human Souls] (1977) by Josef Škvorecký.

The aim of the work was to define the stylistic function of the proverb in Czech transnational prose. In the course of the study, the method of descriptive analysis, component analysis and linguo-stylistic analysis was applied.

The relevance of the work lies in the fact that at the moment there is an extremely small number of studies in which the paremiological approach is applied to the study of texts written by authors with a hybrid identity. The research is divided into three sections. The work opens with a chapter that examines the features of a proverb as a unit of a separate language level and its significance in the field of cultural linguistics. The next two sections are devoted to the analysis of paremiological units in each of the novels and the definition of their stylistic role in the text.

The result of the study was the specification of proverbs in novels, the patterns of their use were derived, and the conclusion was drawn that the national self-identification of the author plays an important role in the choice of linguistic means that reflect the images and stereotypes recorded in the language picture of the world.
