Analysis of portmanteau words in the Modern English language

Abstract

Цель настоящей дипломной работы – провести анализ особенностей слов-слитков в современном английском языке. В работе решается следующий ряд задач: 1) дать определение понятию «телескопия»; 2) изучить явление телескопии в системе словообразовательных средств современного английского языка; 3) рассмотреть предпосылки формирования слов-слитков; 4) исследовать механизм образования слов-слитков и привести их краткую характеристику; 5) выявить структурно-семантические и функциональные особенности слов-слитков в современном английском языке. Дипломная работа состоит из введения, двух глав, заключения, списка использованной литературы. Объем работы – 47 страниц. Первая глава посвящена аналитическому обзору литературы по теме дипломной работы. Особое внимание в первой главе уделяется изучению телескопии как способу словообразования. Вторая глава посвящена аналитическому рассмотрению структурно-семантических и функциональных особенностей английских слов-слитков. В Заключении излагаются основные результаты и подводятся общие итоги исследования.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the features of portmanteau words in modern English. The following series of tasks are solved in the work: 1) to define the concept of "telescopic"; 2) to study the phenomenon of telescopic words in the system of derivational means of modern English; 3) to consider the prerequisites for the formation of portmanteau words; 4) to investigate the mechanism of formation of portmanteau words and to bring their brief description; 5) to reveal the structural-semantic and functional features of portmanteau words in modern English. This graduation work consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion and a list of references. The volume of the work is 47 pages. The First Chapter is devoted to an analytical review of the literature on the theme of the thesis. Particular attention in the first chapter is given to the study of telescopic words as a way of word formation. The Second Chapter is devoted to an analytical examination of the structural-semantic and functional features of English portmanteau words. The Conclusion outlines the main results and summarizes the results of the study.
