Expression of silence in the novel "The Idiot" by F.Dostoevsky: Lexical, grammatical and functional aspects

Abstract

В данной работе анализируются способы описания ситуаций молчания, которые использует Ф.Достоевский в романе «Идиот». Извлечённые из текста единицы анализируются в трёх аспектах: лексическом, синтаксическом и функциональном. В теоретической главе решается вопрос о статусе молчания в лингвистике и о месте молчания в творчестве Достоевского. В практических главах представлены лексическая и синтаксическая классификация единиц, описывающих ситуацию молчания, и проведен анализ функций молчания в тексте. В работе предложен список функций коммуникативного акта молчания, выявленных в тексте романа «Идиот». В работе также демонстрируются обнаруженные в тексте романа авторские выражения с семантикой молчания.

In this paper, we analyze the ways to describe situations of silence, which F.Dostoevsky uses in the novel "The Idiot". The units extracted from the text are analyzed in three aspects: lexical, syntactic and functional. The theoretical chapter deals with the status of silence in linguistics and the place of silence in Dostoevsky's novel. The practical chapters present the lexical and syntactic classification of units describing the situation of silence, and analyze the functions of silence in the text. The list of functions of the communicative act of silence discovered in the text of the novel "The Idiot" is proposed in the paper. The work also demonstrates the author's expressions found in the novel's text with the semantics of silence.
