The phenomenon of Puerto Rican statehood: Formation and development of the political system of the 'Free state of Puerto Rico (1952-2017)

Abstract

Еще в начале ХХ века Куба и Пуэрто-Рико оказались в зависимости от США по результатам испано-американской войны 1898 г. Но если кубинцам все-таки удалось освободиться от американского господства, то Пуэрто-Рико и по сей день является территорией США.В настоящей работе предпринимается попытка проследить историю развития политической системы Пуэрто-Рико после утверждения в 1952 г. политического статуса Свободно присоединившегося государства, а также охарактеризовать актуальную картину политической жизни острова.

As early as at the beginning of the 20th century Cuba and Puerto Rico turned out to be dependent on the USA as a result of the Spanish-American War of 1898. Bit if the Cubans managed to free themselves from the american domination, Puerto Rico still remains the territory of the USA. In this paper we attempt to trace the history of the development of the political system of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico after 1952 and to describe the relevant picture of the political life of the island.
