Transformation of the aesthetic program of Soviet official art after 1953 under the influence of the Western import (of things, ideas and realities)

Abstract

Исследование посвящено анализу официального советского искусства в контексте расширения международных связей СССР с западом в период правления Н. С. Хрущева. Рассматриваются положения о трансформации официальной эстетической парадигмы под влиянием западных модернизационных концепций, заимствованных в целях повышения экономической конкурентоспособности Советского Союза. В связи с этим на рассмотрение выносятся вопросы о философии модернизма, как основной идеологической траектории существования СССР, и ее проявлениях в культуре и искусстве. А также проводится сравнение сталинского и хрущевского периодов правления для выявления основных закономерностей в формализации мотивов советской идеологической модерности в официальном искусстве.

This paper analyzes Soviet official art within the context of expanding international relations between USSR and Western countries during Nikita Khrushchev’s government. Examined theses center around transformations of the official aesthetic paradigm under the influence of western conceptions of modernization, adopted in order to increase Soviet economic competitiveness. This brings up questions about the philosophy of modernism as the main ideological trajectory behind the very existence of the USSR, and in particular its manifestations in art and culture. Additionally, a comparison is made between various aspects of Stalin’s and Khruschev’s governments in order to identify key patterns in formalization of the official image of modernity in art.
