Electoral strategies of political parties during the elections of 2011 and 2016 in the Russian Federation: Comparative Analysis

Abstract

Целью работы является определение электоральных стратегий четырёх парламентских партий за два избирательных цикла (2011 год и 2016 год) с помощью контент-анализа предвыборных программ. Было установлено,что все партии использовали смешанные электоральные стратегии. Это объясняется неоднородностью потенциального электората партий, сложностью политической ситуации в стране, неопределённостью идеологической базы партий, особенностями российской партийной системы. Применение нескольких подходов в стратегиях отражает ориентированность партий на широкий круг избирателей, стремление получить поддержку со стороны различных групп населения.

The aim of the work is to define the electoral strategies of four parliamentary parties during the two election cycles (2011 and 2016) by using the content analysis of election programs. It was found that all parties used mixed electoral strategies. It is explained by heterogeneity of the potential party electorate, complexity of the political situation in the country, uncertainty of ideological base of parties, features of the Russian party system. The application of several approaches in strategies reflects the focus of parties on a wide range of voters, on desire to gain support from various groups of the population.
