В работе рассматриваются вопросы, связанные с реставрацией памятников архитектуры в XIX и XX вв. На основании опубликованных, а также архивных материалов реконструируются обстоятельства, касающиеся проблем сохранения памятников истории и культуры Новгородской земли. Большое внимание уделяется послевоенной реставрации средневековой архитектуры Новгорода. Также в работе освещаются вопросы, касающиеся взаимоотношений власти и общества в области охраны памятников старины в XIX и XX веках.

The work deals with issues related to the restoration of architectural monuments in the XIX and XX centuries. On the basis of published and archival materials circumstances are reconstructed relating to the problems of preservation of monuments of history and culture of the Novgorod land. Great attention is paid to the post-war restoration of the medieval architecture of Novgorod. Also, the work covers issues related to the relationship between government and society in the field of the protection of historical monuments in the XIX and XX centuries.
