National and religious themes in the heritage of James Ussher

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена изучению этно-религиозной проблематике в литературном наследии архиепископа Армы Дж. Ашера. Анализируется концепция этно-религиозной идентичности и национальной церкви, представленная в двух сочинениях Ашера, посвященных древней ирландской церкви. Автор приходит к выводу, что Ашером была выработана новая идентичность, основанная на религиозной и территориальной принадлежности, т.е. «протестант, живущий в Ирландии».

The focus of this work is ethno-religious problematics in writings of the James Ussher, archbishop of Armagh. It provides an analisys of the conception of ethno-religious identity and national church that he introduces in his two works on ancient Irish church. Author comes to the conclusion that Usher developped a new identity, one that was based on religion and territorial affiliation, an identity of a protestant, whose home is Ireland.
