Palatal implants in treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Abstract

Синдром обструктивного апноэ сна (СОАС) является серьезным и широко распространенным заболеванием. Он может вызывать серьезные осложнения со стороны многих систем органов и создавать проблемы в социальной жизни. Выбор конкретного метода лечения производится строго индивидуально, учитывая результаты объективного тестирования и осмотра специалистом. Хотя самым распространенным методом лечения СОАС является СИПАП-терапия, хирургическое лечение довольно часто дополняет консервативную терапию или выступает первичным методом лечения. Стремление к разработке безопасных и менее инвазивных методов хирургического вмешательства привело к появлению методики имплантации мягкого неба. В настоящее время разработкой и поставкой данного оборудования занимается компания Medtronic и выпускает системы имплантации Pillar. В этой работе представлено описательное исследование трех пациентов, страдающих СОАС и прошедших процедуру установки небных имплантов. У пациентов было отмечено улучшение самочувствия, короткий послеоперационный период и уменьшение выраженности симптомов СОАС. Однако широкое распространение данной методики ограничено в нашей стране ввиду высокой стоимости и отсутствия государственного финансирования данного вида лечения.

The obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a serious and widespread disease. It can cause serious complications on the part of many organ systems and create problems in social life. The choice of a specific method of treatment is strictly individual, taking into account the results of objective testing and examination by a specialist. Although the most common treatment for OSA is CPAP therapy, surgical treatment quite often complements conservative therapy or acts as the primary method of treatment. The desire to develop safe and less invasive methods of surgical intervention led to the development of a soft palate implantation technique. Currently, Medtronic company is developing and supplying this equipment and produces Pillar implantation systems. In this work, a descriptive study of three patients suffering from OSAS and having undergone a procedure for the installation of palatal implants is presented. Patients had an improvement in their well-being, a short post-operative period and a decrease in the severity of symptoms of OSAS. However, the wide dissemination of this technique is limited in our country due to high cost and the lack of public funding for this type of treatment.
