Historical and political allegory "The Faerie Queene" by E. Spenser

Abstract

Данная выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена анализу историко-политической аллегории в поэме «Королева фей» Э. Спенсера. Целью исследования было прояснить механизм взаимодействия текстовой реальности «Королевы фей» и реальности елизаветинской Англии. Актуальность работы обусловлена исключительной значимостью «Королевы фей» для представления об истории английской литературы эпохи Ренессанса. Малая изученность поэмы в отечественном литературоведении, а также отсутствие осмысления «Королевы фей» как литературного явления на концептуально новом уровне, по сравнению с работами ученых XIX – начала XX вв, обеспечивают научную новизну данного исследования. Исходя из цели исследования, были поставлены соответствующие задачи: выявить наиболее значимые составляющие идеологического контекста эпохи, которые могли найти отражение в тексте поэмы; проанализировать воплощение образа Елизаветы I в тексте «Королевы фей»; определить характеристики отрицательных персонажей, их связи с историческим контекстом; наметить соотношение между образом Англии и королевства фейри в тексте поэмы. Методологической базой исследования послужили аналитические методы, разработанные в рамках «новой критики», а также представленные в работах таких ученых, как Ю.М. Лотман, М. Фуко, С. Гринблат, Ф.А. Йейтс и др. В работа содержит введение, заключение, библиографический список, тексты статей опубликованных в научных изданиях, индексируемых в РИНЦ, докладов, прочитанных в рамках международных, всероссийских, межвузовских конференций.

The final qualification paper is dedicated to the analysis of the historical and political allegory in Edmund Spenser's poem the Faerie Queene. The objective of the study was to clarify a mechanism of interaction between the textual reality of “The Faerie Queene” and the reality of Elizabethan England. Thematic justification of the study is determined by the paramount importance of “The Faerie Queene” for our understanding of the English Renaissance literary history. The academic novelty of the research is provided by the fact that the poem was little studied by Russian literary critics, as well as by the lack of the general comprehension of “The Faerie Queene” as a literary phenomenon at the new methodological level in comparison to studies by the 19th and early 20th-century sholars. A number of tasks were set to achieve the objective of the study: to discover the most important components of the ideological context of the period, which could have been reflected in the poem; to analyse the images of elizabeth i represented in the text of “the faerie queene”; to define the characteristics of the negative personages and the connection of the latter to the historical context; to outline the relation between the images of england and faerieland created by spenser. The analytical methods developed by the “New Criticism”, as well as those presented in the studies of Y. M. Lotman, M. Foucault, S. Grinblatt, F. A. Yates and others served as the methodological basis for the study. The paper contains an introduction, texts of the articles published in the academic editions indexed in RISQ, and reports made at the international, all-Russia and interuniversity conferences.
