Specific features of translation of legal vocabulary from English to Russian (based on the novels by E.S. Gardner)

Abstract

Аннотация. Данная работа посвящена проблемам перевода юридической лексики с английского языка на русский на материалах книг детективного жанра. Актуальность выбранной темы обусловлена постоянным развитием и изменением юридической лексики, а также различием правовых систем России и стран общего права (в частности, США), что затрудняет поиск необходимых соответствий при переводе и нередко служит источником переводческих ошибок. Объектом исследования послужили англоязычные и русскоязычные юридические термины. Предметом исследования стали межъязыковые понятийные соответствия в области юридической терминологии в английском и русском языках. В ходе исследования был проведен анализ представленного материала, в результате которого была установлена закономерность распределения англоязычных терминов на группы в зависимости от наличия или отсутствия аналогичных понятий в российской правовой системе, были выделены основные способы перевода указанных терминов, выявлены ошибки при переводе, сформулированы рекомендации для подготовки будущих специалистов и предложены темы для последующих исследований. Практическая значимость данной работы заключается в том, что результаты анализа особенностей перевода юридической лексики на материалах книг детективного жанра могут в дальнейшем использоваться переводчиками в работе, служить в качестве обучающего материала для студентов переводческих направлений, а также оказаться полезными для преподавателей высших учебных заведений при составлении образовательных программ.

Abstract. This paper is devoted to the problems of translation of legal vocabulary from English into Russian based on the materials of books of detective genre. The relevance of the chosen theme is due to the constant development and changes in legal vocabulary, as well as the difference between the legal systems of Russia and common law countries (in particular, the United States), which makes it difficult to find the necessary correspondences in translation and often serves as a source of translation mistakes. The object of the study is English and Russian legal terms. The subject of the study is interlingual conceptual correspondences in the field of legal terminology in English and Russian. In the course of the study an analysis of the presented material was carried out, as a result of which a pattern of distribution of English-language terms into groups depending on the presence or absence of similar concepts in the Russian legal system was established. Also, the main ways of translation of these terms were singled out, translation mistakes were identified, recommendations for the training of future specialists were formulated and themes for further research were proposed. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that the results of the analysis of the specific features of translation of legal vocabulary based on the material of detective novels can be further used by translators in their work, serve as educational resource for students of translation faculties, as well as be useful for faculty members when developing educational programmes.
