Emotive and evaluative characteristics of the English-language Internet news texts about oil and gas projects

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена изучению и описанию эмотивных и оценочных характеристик англоязычных новостных Интернет-текстов о ряде нефтегазовых проектов. В работе среди прочих используются методы контекстуального, прагмадискурсивного и интерпретативного анализа. Результаты проведенного исследования демонстрируют различные виды компонентов оценки, наличие различий между типами и знаками оценок для русских и иностранных проектов, а также доминирование негативных эмоций над положительными в таких новостных текстах.

The current paper studies emotive and evaluative characteristics of Anglophone Internet news texts about oil and gas projects. The study is set in the framework of contemporary linguistic studies of the relevant universal categories and employs methods of contextual, interpretative, pragmatic and discursive analyses. The results of the investigation aim to demonstrate the variety of ways of representation of the components of evaluation, a bias towards negative and positive evaluations of Russian and foreign pipeline projects respectively and a predominance of negative emotions in the analysed news texts.
