Stylistic experiments of Yevgeny Zamyatin in the collection of short stories "Fairy Tales for Big Children"

Abstract

Материалом данного исследования является сборник рассказов Е. Замятина «Большим детям сказки». Цель работы – выявление особенностей стилизации в прозе Е. Замятина. На материале сборника были выделены, описаны и проанализированы различные средства стилизации (фонетические, словообразовательные, лексические и синтаксические) с точки зрения их выразительных возможностей. В первой половине сборника прослеживается четкая ориентация текста на устную традицию. Обращение к языковым средствам, характерным для разговорного стиля речи, акцентирует внимание читателя на связи современности с ценностями народной культуры. Однако постепенно повествователь выходит за рамки своей нарративной роли, приобретая значение всевидящей инстанции, способной принимать на себя образы героев из различных социальных слоев. В речь рассказчика вклиниваются черты, характерные для официально-делового стиля. Такая смена нарративных масок, возможная благодаря особой стилизации текста, создает контраст повествования и сюжета, усиливая парадоксальность не только художественной действительности, но и жизни вообще.

The data of this research is a collection of short stories "Fairy Tales for Big Children" by E. Zamyatin. The aim of the work is to identify the features of stylization in these stories. During the research various stylization methods (phonetic, word-formation, lexical and syntactic) were identified, described and analyzed in terms of their expressive capabilities. In the first half of the collection, there is a clear orientation of the text to the oral tradition. The language tools, that are typical for the colloquial style of speech, focus the reader's attention on the connection of modernity with the values of folk culture. However, gradually the narrator goes beyond his narrative role and acquire the significance of an all-seeing authority, that is capable to be the representatives of the various social strata. The features that are typical for the official business style are wedged into the narrator's speech. Changing of narrative masks, that is possible due to the special stylization of the text, creates a contrast between the narrative and the plot, reinforcing the paradoxical nature of not only artistic reality, but also life in general.
