Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov’s "One-storied America": The text and the context

Abstract

Дипломная работа посвящена текстологии «Одноэтажной Америки» И. Ильфа и Е. Петрова. Цель работы заключалась в том, чтобы составить план нового научного издания травелога. В первой главе представлен обзор критической и научной литературы, посвященной «Одноэтажной Америке» и записным книжкам Ильфа. Во второй главе сравниваются четыре издания путевых очерков и делается вывод о том, что первое издание книги можно считать основным текстом. В третьей главе атрибутируются главы путевых очерков. Травелог сопоставляется с «американскими» дневниками Ильфа и письмами, которые Ильф и Петров писали из США в СССР. Анализ их стиля и содержания позволяет определить авторство большинства глав «Одноэтажной Америки». В приложении к работе приводится структура возможного научного издания травелога.

The diploma thesis is devoted to the textology of «One-storied America» by I. Ilf and E. Petrov. The purpose of the work was to suggest a plan of a new scholarly edition of the travelogue. The first chapter provides an overview of the critical and scholarly literature devoted to «One-storied America» and Ilf's diaries. In the second chapter four editions of the book are compared and the conclusion is made that the first edition of the travelogue can be considered the main text. In the third part the chapters of «One-storied America» are attributed. The travelogue is compared with Ilf’s «american» diaries and letters, which Ilf and Petrov were writing from the USA to the USSR. Analysis of their style and content allows to determine the authorship of most chapters. The plan of a new edition of the book is suggested in the annex to the diploma thesis.
