The role of UNESCO in the conservation of the World Cultural Heritage: global challenges

Abstract

В данном исследовании автором подробно рассматриваются особенности становления и развития концепции культурного наследия в деятельности ЮНЕСКО, а также роль руководящих органов организации – Генеральной конференции, Исполнительного совета и Секретариата – в деятельности по сохранению объектов Всемирного культурного наследия. Значительное внимание уделено изучению ряда существующих угроз экологического, экономического и политического характера природным объектам и памятникам культуры и предпринимаемым мерам ЮНЕСКО по их предотвращению и минимизации. Кроме того, в работе проанализированы основные аспекты сотрудничества ЮНЕСКО с Российской Федерацией в областях науки, образования и культуры и выделены их отличительные черты.

In this research paper, the author examines in detail the features of the formation and development of the concept of cultural heritage in the activities of UNESCO, as well as the role of the governing bodies of the organization – the General Conference, the Executive Council and the Secretariat – in the preservation of World Cultural Heritage sites. Considerable attention is paid to the study of a number of existing threats of an ecological, economic and political nature to natural objects and cultural monuments and the measures taken by UNESCO to prevent and minimize them. In addition, the paper analyzes the main aspects of UNESCO's cooperation with the Russian Federation in the fields of science, education and culture and highlights their distinctive features.
