Restoration of a wall painting fragment from the Bishop's Metochion in the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St.Petersburg

Abstract

Основанием для проведения реставрационных работ в храме Благовещения Пресвятой Богородицы послужило обнаружение росписей, скрытых под слоями малярных поновлений. Раскрвтие живописи началось в 2020г. По результатам проведенных реставрационных работ и исследований в виде пробных расчисток, выполненных во всем интерьере храма, можно сделать вывод о хорошей сохранности авторской живописи, скрытой под множественными слоями поздних поновлений. Объектом реставрации стал фрагмент росписи, расположенный на северо-восточной стене лестничного пролета между первым и вторым этажами храма. Целью данной работы является проведение реставрации фрагмента монументальной живописи: удаление слоев краски, покрывающей авторскую живопись, и проведение консервационных работ. Данная работа включает в себя паспорт реставрации, в котором подробно описаны процессы исследований и проведенные реставрационные мероприятия, а также зафиксировано состояние памятника до начала реставрационных работ, собрана информация об истории памятника и рекомендации по дальнейшему хранению.

The initial basis for the restoration works in church of Annunciation was the discovery of owerpainted images on the surfaces of all walls. As a result of investigative cleanings, it was concluded that the walls are covered with multiple figurative compositions and ornaments. The object of the restoration was the fragment of the painting located on the north-eastern wall of the staircase between the first and second floors of the temple. The aim of this dissertation is to perform a restoration of a fragment of a monumental painting. The main objective is to remove layers of paint which covers author's painting and carry out conservation works. This works includs restoration report, which thoroughly describes research processes and performed actions, such as conservation and restoration of art object. This document captures condition of the monument before the start of restoration work, includes information about history of the monument and recomendations for further storage.
