Detective fiction in the literature of Myanmar: Literary works by Shwe U Daung

Данная выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена исследованию детективного жанра в литературе Бирмы/Мьянмы на примере творчества Швей Удауна. В начале XX в. был опубликован его первый рассказ о бирманском сыщике У Сан Ща, который положил начало развитию детективного жанра в Бирме. Считается, что прототипом У Сан Ща является Шерлок Холмс, герой произведений Артура Конан Дойля. Сюжет и герои историй о бирманском детективе имеют много общего с рассказами английского писателя, однако отличаются особенностями повествования, обусловленными культурным контекстом, историческими событиями и меняющимися политическими взглядами Швей Удауна. Помимо произведений, основанных на рассказах о Шерлоке Холмсе, он написал несколько оригинальных историй об У Сан Ща, сюжет которых не связан с содержанием детективов Артура Конан Дойля.

The thesis focuses on the analysis of the detective fiction in the Burmese literature and the literary works of Shwe U Daung in particular. His first story about Burmese detective U San Shar was published at the beginning of the 20th century and paved the way for the development of the genre in Burma. U San Shar is thought to be based on the image of Sherlock Holmes created by Arthur Conan Doyle. The plot and the characters of the Burmese and English versions have a lot in common, but the former is distinguished by a specific narrative due to the cultural context, historical events and changing political views of Shwe U Daung. Apart from the detectives based on the Sherlock Holmes stories, he created a number of original pieces about U San Shar, the plot of which is not related to the works of Arthur Conan Doyle.
