The impact of EU accession on Poland's economy

Abstract

Выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена изучению последствий вступления в Европейский Союз для экономики Польши. Прежде всего нами был проведен анализ финансовых перспектив ЕС (Financial framework), который позволил определить, как основные направления и источники финансовой поддержки Польши со стороны Европейского Союза, так и ее объемы в рамках трех финансовых перспектив (2000-2006 гг., 2007-2013 гг., 2014-2020 гг.). Особое внимание в работе уделяется рассмотрению отдельных отраслей экономики Польши, таких как сельское хозяйство, транспортная инфраструктура, высшее образование и внешняя торговля. Путем анализа статистических данных нам удалось выявить некоторые тенденции в развитии упомянутых отраслей, среди которых: рост конкурентоспособности сельского хозяйства Польши, укрупнение сельскохозяйственных угодий, значительное увеличение объема грузоперевозок автомобильным транспортом благодаря модернизации автомобильных дорог, рост академической мобильности студентов польских вузов, а также увеличение экспорта польских товаров в страны ЕС. Проведенное исследование также показало, что несмотря на наличие проблемных областей во всех рассмотренных отраслях, в целом вступление страны в Европейский Союз и членство в нем на протяжении 16-ти лет привело к беспрецедентному росту экономики Польши.

The thesis work examines the impact of EU accession on Polish economy. First of all, a comprehensive analysis of the EU financial frameworks was conducted which allowed us to determine both the main directions and sources of financial support for Poland from the European Union as well as its amount within the three financial frameworks (2000-2006, 2007-2013, 2014-2020). Particular attention is paid to the development of certain sectors of the Polish economy, such as agriculture, transport infrastructure, higher education, and foreign trade. Having analyzed the statistical data, we were able to identify certain trends in the development of the aforementioned sectors including the growth of the competitiveness of Polish agriculture, a significant increase in the volume of freight transportation by road due to the modernization of road infrastructure, the growth of academic mobility of Polish University students, as well as an increase in exports of Polish goods to other EU countries. The research has also shown that despite the remaining problems in all the sectors considered, the country's accession to the European Union and membership in it for 16 years has led to unprecedented growth of the Polish economy.
