The image of the USSR in the works of André Gide

Abstract

В работе представлен анализ двух частей травелога Андре Жида, который посетил Советский Союз в 1936 году. Писатель, высказывавший глубокую симпатию Советскому Союзу перед поездкой, после нее в своих произведениях "Возвращение из СССР" и позднее "Поправки к моему "Возвращению из СССР"" представляет страну гораздо менее лестным образом. Предметом данной работы является сформированный писателем образ СССР, рассматриваются выбранные им темы и использованные приемы убеждения. Также определяются особенности жанра, стиля и структуры произведения. Кроме этого, определяются причины столь радикальной смены точки зрения писателем и факторы, повлиявшие на это. В результате, изучаются детали взаимодействия писателя с Россией и СССР, как в литературном, так и в политическом ключе, устанавливается контекст его путешествия и подробности поездки.

The work presents an analysis of two parts of a travelogue by André Gide, who visited the Soviet Union in 1936. Despite the sympathy for the Soviet Union expressed before the trip, in this works, "Return from the U.S.S.R." and "Afterthoughts: A Sequel to Return from the U.S.S.R", he presents the country in a much less flattering way. The subject of this work is the image of the USSR formed by the writer, so the topics chosen by him and the methods of persuasion used are considered. The features of the genre, style and structure of the work are also determined. In addition, the reasons for such a radical change in point of view by the writer and the factors that influenced this are found. As a result, the details of the writer's interaction with Russia and the USSR are studied, both in literary and political terms; the context of his journey and the details of the trip are also established.
