Thematic group "Colour" in “The Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro and its translation into Russian

Abstract

Исследование представляет собой анализ лексики тематической группы «цвет» в романе Кадзуо Исигуро «Остаток дня» и его переводе на русский язык. Цвета традиционно использовались в литературе для создания образов персонажей, сцен и событий. Цветовая символика в литературе придает словам более глубокий смысл. Комплекс лексики в английском языке, обозначающей цвета, обладает характерными для культуры ассоциациями. Лексемы цвета представляют собой важную составляющую содержательной и смысловой части произведения. Цвет является одним из средств передачи чувств и переживаний героев, эволюции личности главного героя и рассказчика, от лица которого ведется повествование. Важная роль лексем цвета прослеживается на протяжении всего произведения, а некоторый набор цветов повторяется чаще других. Наиболее частотны в романе Кадзуо Исигуро «Остаток дня» лексемы, обозначающие серый, черный и белый оттенки. Автор как использует традиционные для англоговорящих ассоциации с цветами, так и дает им свою коннотацию.

The study is an analysis of the vocabulary of the thematic group "color" in Kazuo Ishiguro's novel "The Remains of the Day" and its translation into Russian. Colors have traditionally been used in literature to create images of characters, scenes and events. Color symbolism in literature gives words a deeper meaning. The color vocabulary in English has cultural associations. Color lexemes are an important component of the content and semantic part of the work. Color is one of the means of conveying the feelings and experiences of the heroes, the evolution of the personality of the protagonist and the narrator, on whose behalf the story is told. The important role of color lexemes can be traced throughout the entire work, and a certain set of colors is repeated more often than others. The most common lexemes in the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro "The Remains of the Day" denote shades of gray, black and white. The author both uses the traditional English-speaking associations with colors, and gives them his own connotation.
