The visual identity of designer Rei Kawakubo`s "Art of the in-Between" clothing collection

Abstract

Мы живем в мире, наполненном значениями, символами и языками. Мода - это один из диалектов искусства, а графический дизайн - язык символов и знаков. Тема моей дипломной работы - графическое сопровождение коллекции одежды Rei Kawakubo "Art of the in between". При выполнении этого проекта моей задачей было перевести язык текстиля и формы на язык цвета и знака. Рей Кавакубо невероятно интересный дизайнер. У нее совершенно другой взгляд на стиль, другая философия, отличная от европейской. Ей близка философия ваби-саби, эстетическое мировоззрение, включающее наслаждение подлинным, некоторую архаичность, скромность и уединение. Ее работы полны жизни и идей, и для меня было интересным опытом попытаться интерпретировать смысл ее послания.

We live in a world filled with meanings, symbols and languages. Fashion is one of the dialects of art, and graphic design is the language of symbols and signs. The topic of my graduation thesis is the visual identity of Rei Kawakubo's clothing collection "Art of the in between". In doing this project my task was to translate the language of textile and shape in the language of color and sign. Rei Kawakubo incredibly interesting designer. She has a completely different view of style, a different philosophy, different from the European view. She is close to the philosophy of wabi-sabi, an aesthetic worldview that includes the enjoyment of the genuine, a certain archaic, modesty and solitude. Her work is full of life and idea, and for me it was an interesting experience to try to interpret the meaning of her message.
