Anton Chekhov's play "Fatherlessness": Genre, literary context

Abstract

Настоящее исследование посвящено рассмотрению категории литературного мышления на материале первой пьесы А. П. Чехова. Подходя к разным уровням произведения с учетом специфической «литературности» сознания героев, мы можем по-иному взглянуть на основные проблемы, которые решает Чехов в своей пьесе, решить самые спорные вопросы, связанные с ее интерпретацией, а также пересмотреть значение некоторых противоречивых образов. Литературные контексты «Безотцовщины» настолько широки, что кажутся бесконечными, и этим обусловливается актуальность исследования. Находя новые контексты или по-другому анализируя уже найденные, мы получаем возможность углубить свое понимание пьесы, ее тем и образов. «Безотцовщина» лежит в основании всего чеховского творчества, и ее переоценка влияет на осмысление всего, что писатель будет создавать в дальнейшем.

The research is devoted to the analysis of the category of literary thinking on the basis of the first play of A. Chekhov. Comprising different levels of the literary work and taking a closer look on the specific "literary" consciousness of the characters, the final thesis sheds light on the main problems exposed in the A. Chekhov’s play, while also solving the most controversial issues related to its interpretation and reconsideration of the meaning of some contradictory images. The literary contexts of the "Fatherlessness" are wide enough to seem endless, which determines the relevance of the study. Through the process of either revealing the new contexts of the play or introducing the new interpretation of the ones that were already found, we get the opportunity to deepen our understanding of the A. Chekhov’s literary work, its themes and characters. The “Fatherlessness" constitutes the basis of the Chekhov's literary legacy, and its reevaluation affects the comprehension of all the works ever written by the author.
