Current issues of cooperation between the North Atlantic Alliance and the Russian Federation after 2014

Abstract

В данном исследовании рассматривается сотрудничество Североатлантического альянса и Российской Федерации после 2014 года. Автор анализирует причины трансформации отношений, предлагает рассматривать отношения между Россией и НАТО через концепцию "сдерживание - диалог". Исследование происходит через анализ основных существующих каналов связи между сторонами. Также рассматриваются противоречия между Российской Федерацией и Североатлантическим альянсом и перспективы взаимодействия в контексте смены президентской администрации в Соединённых Штатах Америки. Автор приходит к выводу о том, что Россия и НАТО показывают обоюдное стремление к расширению сотрудничества, однако возникают всё новые препятствия на пути развития диалога. Стороны делают маленькие, но зачастую успешные попытки возобновления взаимодействия, а его перспективы, во многом, будут зависеть от личной встречи президентов России и США в июне 2021 года.

This study examines the cooperation between the North Atlantic Alliance and the Russian Federation after 2014. The author analyzes the reasons for the transformation of relations, suggests considering relations between Russia and NATO through the concept of "deterrence - dialogue". The study takes place through the analysis of the main existing communication channels between the parties. The article also examines the contradictions between the Russian Federation and the North Atlantic Alliance and the prospects for cooperation in the context of the change of the presidential administration in the United States of America. The author comes to the conclusion that Russia and NATO show a mutual desire to expand cooperation, but there are new obstacles to the development of dialogue. The parties are making small but often successful attempts to resume cooperation, and its prospects will largely depend on the personal meeting of the Presidents of Russia and the United States in June 2021.
