Linguistic and cultural aspects of translation of the novel by I. Ilf and E. Petrov "12 chairs" into Spanish and French

Abstract

Наше исследование посвящено проблеме передачи лингвокультурологических аспектов романа И. Ильфа и Е. Петрова «12 стульев» на испанский и французский языки. Мы разделили лингвокультурологические элементы романа на пять категорий: реалии, формы обращения и формулы речевого этикета, фразеологизмы, жаргонизмы, инвективная лексика. Мы подробно проанализировали каждую категорию, их отличительные черты и основные характеристики, наметили ряд сложностей, возникающих у переводчика при их передаче на иностранный язык. Кроме того, мы изучили и рассмотрели различные переводческие стратегии, их слабые и сильные стороны, а также определили, какие переводческие стратегии были использованы при переводе тех или иных категорий лингвокультурологических элементов.

Our research deals with the problem of translation of linguistic and cultural aspects of the novel by I. Ilf and E. Petrov «The twelve chairs» into Spanish and French. The linguistic and cultural elements of the novel were divided into five groups: realias, forms of address, formulas of verbal etiquette, phraseological units, slang expressions, invective words. We realized a detailed analysis of every category, their characteristic features, defined some of the difficulties for the translators in the process of their transmission into a foreign language. Besides, there were analysed different translational strategies of transmission of linguistic and cultural elements, their strong and weak points and revealed which translational methods were used the most when translating every type of category.
