Local residents' voting participation in St.Petersburg and Leningrad region: Socio-political factors

Abstract

Работа посвящена анализу социально-политических факторов электорального поведения в России и мире. На примере избирательных кампаний, недавно прошедших в США, странах Евросоюза и Украине, выявляются и описываются современные пост-демократические тенденции в развитии политической коммуникации и избирательной активности. Особое внимание уделяется феномену популизма. Анализируются сходства и различия последних российских избирательных процессов с рассмотренными западными кампаниями и выявляются особенности политической активности в современном российском обществе. Наконец, определяются факторы избирательной активности жителей Санкт-Петербурга и Ленинградской области на основе результатов регрессионного анализа данных, полученных в рамках проведения эмпирического исследования.

This paper analyses the socio-political factors of electoral behavior in contemporary Russia and Western societies. Post-democratic tendencies in the political communication and electoral activity are identified and described in the example of the most recent electoral campaigns in the USA, the EU countries and Ukraine. Particular attention is paid to the phenomenon of populism. Similar and heterogeneous events in Russian socio-political circles. Finally, the factors of the selective activity of the residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region are the results of the regression analysis of data obtained in the framework of empirical research. The latest Russian electoral processes are compared with the described Western campaigns, revealing the differences and similarities between them. The features of political activity in modern Russian society are analyzed. Finally, the socio-political factors of the electoral activity of the residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region are determined on the basis of the results of the regression analysis of data obtained as a part of an empirical study.
