Rock magnetism and composition of marine sediments and mean sedimentation rates on the Mendeleev rise, the Arctic Ocean

Abstract

В работе приводится обзор предыдущих исследований района поднятия Менделеева в Северном Ледовитом океане, позволяющих получить представление о геологическом строении региона и оценить перспективы его нефтегазоносности. Одним из инструментов, позволяющих устанавливать возраст осадков и решать проблемы стратиграфии, а также дающих вклад в оценку перспективы нефтегазоносности, являются палеомагнитные исследования донных осадков. В работе рассматривается и описывается колонка донных осадков, отобранных на поднятии Менделеева, а также производятся измерения магнитной восприимчивости и ее анизотропии с целью определения условий осадконакопления. По результатам измерения проводится корреляция с аналогичными данными соседних регионов. По совокупности имеющихся и полученных данных дается прогноз потенциальной нефтегазоносности региона.

The paper reviews the previous researches of the Mendeleev Rise in the Arctic Ocean which gives an idea of the geological structure of the region and assesses the prospects of its oil and gas potential. One of the tools to determine the age of precipitation and solve problems of stratigraphy, as well as contributing to the estimation of the petroleum potential, are paleomagnetic researches of bottom sediments. The core of bottom sediments obtained on the Mendeleyev Rise is described and measurements of magnetic susceptibility and its anisotropy were carried out to determine sedimentation conditions. Based on the measurement results, a correlation with similar data from neighboring regions is made. According to the set of available and received data, the forecast of the prospects of oil and gas potential of the region is given.
