Gustave Flaubert as a Philosopher of the 20th Century

Abstract

В работе исследуются незаконченный магнум опус Жана-Поля Сартра "Идиот в семье" и незавершенный роман Гюстава Флобера "Бувар и Пекюше". Мы приходим к необходимости применить регрессивный метод Сартра, поскольку очевидно, что имперсональный подход к литературе, который разработал Флобер, был спровоцирован жизненной ситуацией писателя. Сначала мы пытались найти элемент (кризис, конфликт, невроз), который был бы нашим проводником на всем пути исследования. Затем нужно было доказать, что этот элемент, игравший значительную роль в юности писателя, остается актуальным в конце жизни Флобера, словом, вставала необходимость применения регрессивного метода Сартра. Установив, что этот элемент будет нам полезен в нашем исследовании, мы попытались истолковать поздний конфликт и последнее произведение Флобера с помощью невроза 44-го года и ранних работ писателя.

The present thesis analyzes the unfinished magnum opus 'L'idiot de la famille' by Jean-Paul Sartre and the Flaubert's incomplete novel 'Bouvard et Pécuchet'. It was necessitated to apply the Sartre's regressive method after we realised that the impersonal style of Flaubert had been invented as a reaction to the family difficult situation. First of all, we attempted to find this particular element (crisis, neurosis, conflict) that would have been our guide throughout the whole investigational journey. Then we were needed to prove that the element which had been meaningful to the young writer would be still relevant in the sunset of the Flaubert's life; in short, we were in need to employ the Sartre regressive method. Having proved this element to be useful for our work, we made the effort to interpret the late coflict of Flaubert and the last work of the writer with the help of the neurosis of 44 year and the early works of Flaubert.
