Media discourse on national minorities' rights in the Northern Europe

Abstract

За последние двадцать лет страны Северной Европы стали как европейскими, так и мировыми лидерами в ряде сфер: экономика, здравоохранение, образование и наука, информационные технологии, демократические институты и равноправие, права и свободы личности. Именно поэтому Северная Европа является таким привлекательным регионом для иммигрантов. Развитая социальная инфраструктура привлекает иностранных граждан, ищущих стабильного заработка, социально защищенной, комфортной и спокойной жизни. Однако государства, испытывающие большой приток мигрантов, при урегулировании миграционного кризиса прежде всего придерживаются собственных интересов, часто нарушая права и свободы национальных меньшинств. В первую очередь эту тенденцию можно проследить посредством средств массовой информации, которые создают и транслируют дискурс о вопросах и проблемах миграции. Наше исследование актуально потому, что начавшийся в 2015 году миграционный поток на Европу до сих пор не остановился, и европейские государства, в частности, страны Северной Европы до сих пор испытывают сложности с принятием мигрантов из стран, переживающих кризис. Объект: Средства массовой информации Северной Европы. Предмет: медиадискурс о правах национальных меньшинств в средствах массовой информации Северной Европы. Цель нашей дипломной работы: анализ особенностей медиадискурса о правах национальных меньшинств в СМИ Северной Европы. Для достижения данной цели мы намерены выполнить следующие задачи: 1. Выявить ключевые права национальных меньшинств в Северной Европе; 2. Проанализировать материалы СМИ, посвященные проблеме соблюдения прав национальных меньшинств в англоязычных СМИ стран Северной Европы; 3. Изучить существующую в Северной Европе нормативно-правовую базу, связанную с правами национальных меньшинств; 4. Выяснить, насколько права национальных меньшинств соблюдаются в СМИ Североевропейского региона; Теоретико-методологическую базу работы составили исследования по этнологии (А.С. Матвеевская), международному праву (В.В. Грохотова), истории миграционного кризиса в Европе (А. М. Васильев, И.Е. Копченко, Ю.А. Гринева), исследования влияния журналистики на межэтнические отношения (В. К. Малькова, И. Н. Блохин), а также исследования по истории и этнологии стран Северной Европы. Эмпирической базой нашей выпускной квалификационной работы стали материалы о правах национальных меньшинств в англоязычных средствах массовой информации стран Северной Европы: Copenhagen Post online (Дания), The Local.se (Швеция), Finland Times/Daily Finland (Финляндия), The Norway Post (Норвегия). В ходе работы мы использовали такие методы исследования, как количественный и качественный контент-анализ, дискурс-анализ, сравнительный и описательный методы, а также общий социологический подход, с помощью которого мы определяем роль СМИ в функционировании малых и больших социальных общностей. Таким образом, структура нашей работы представлена введением, двумя главами, заключением и списком использованной литературы.

The Nordic countries have become both European and world leaders over the past 20 years in a number of areas, such as: economics, healthcare, education and science, information technology, democratic institutes, equality and human rights. That is why the Nordic countries is currently such an appealing region for immigrants from all over the world. Developed social infrastructure attracts foreign citizens seeking for stable income, socially protected, comfortable and calm life. Nonetheless, states that accepting huge flows of migrants, usually adhere to their own interests, violating rights and freedoms of the national minorities at the same time. This tendency can be primarily seen through mass media which create and translate discourse on issues and problems of national minorities. Our topic is relevant, as the influx of migrants that have exacerbated in 2015, have not stopped so far. Therefore, many European states are still experiencing struggles with acceptance of migrants from different parts of the world having crisis. Object: mass media of the Nordic countries. Subject: media discourse on the rights of national minorities in mass media of the Nordic countries. The purpose of our thesis work: analysis of the media discourse on rights of national minorities in the English language online media of the Nordics. In order to reach this goal, we are going to accomplish following tasks: 1. Identify the key rights of national minorities in the Nordic countries; 2. Analyze articles on the problem of observing rights of national minorities in the English-language media of the Nordic countries; 3. Study the legal framework existing in Northern Europe, connected to the rights of national minorities; 4. Find out how much the rights of national minorities are observed in the media of the Northern European region; The theoretical and methodological base of the work is made by studies on ethnology (A.S. Matveevskaya), international law (V.V. Grokhotov), the history of the migration crisis in Europe (A.M. Vasiliev, I.E. Kopchenko, Y.A. Grineva), studies of the influence of journalism on interethnic relations (V.K. Malkova, I.N. Blokhin), as well as studies on the history and ethnology of the Nordic countries. The empirical material of our final qualifying work consists of the materials on the rights of national minorities in the English-language media of the Nordic countries: Copenhagen Post online (Denmark), The Local (Denmark, Norway, Sweden), Daily Finland, Helsinki Times (Finland), Stockholm News (Sweden), The Norway Post (Norway), This is Finland (Finland), IceNews (all countries of Northern Europe). During our work, we have been using such research methods as content-analysis, discourse-analysis, comparative and descriptive methods and also general sociological approach that helps us determine the role of the media in the functioning of small and large social communities. Therefore, the structure of our work includes introduction, two chapters, conclusion and list of the used literature.
