Metaphor periphrasis as a form of problematic situations manifestation

Abstract

Прежние исследования показали, что есть мало доказательств в пользу эффективности метафоры в психотерапии. Большинство из них – это описания успешных случаев из практики психологов. Цель данного исследования состояла в том, чтобы описать стратегии метафорического перифразирования проблемной ситуации клиента психологом. Под стратегиями в нашем исследовании мы подразумеваем особенности создания метафоры. Наши данные включали выборку из 30 психологов. На первом этапе мы просили психологов посмотреть видео, где клиент рассказывает о своей проблемной ситуации. Затем респондентов просили обобщить проблемную ситуацию клиенту в виде метафоры и заполнить анкету. На втором этапе клиента просили оценить полученные метафоры в соответствии по когнитивному и аффективному компонентам (по 7-балльной шкале). Методы: Количественные данные обрабатывались с использованием коэффициента корреляции Спирмена, для качественных данных мы применяли сравнительный анализ ответов и категоризацию. Результаты показали наличие достоверно значимой связи между когнитивным и аффективным компонентами. Также мы выявили и описали особенности метафорического перифраза проблемной ситуации: диалогичность – монологичность, тип доминирующей репрезентативной системы, способ структурирования информации, полученной от клиента (отражение эмоционального состояния клиента, уточнение ситуации клиента, указание на предполагаемую причину проблемы клиента, предложение способа решения проблемы клиента).

Previous studies have demonstrated that there was little evidence for the effectiveness of metaphor in psychotherapy. Мost of them are descriptions of successful cases from the practice of psychologists. The purpose of this study was to to describe the strategies of metaphorical rephrasing of the client's problem situation by a psychologist. The strategy in our study is the peculiarities of metaphor formation. Our data included a sample of 30 psychologists. At the first step we asked psychologists to watch the video, where the client tell about her problem. Then respondents were asked to summarize the client's problem situation as a metaphor and filled in author’s check-list. At the second step client was asked to evaluate the obtained metaphors by affective and cognitive components (7-point rating scale). Methods: Quantitative data analysis was applied using Spearman's correlation coefficient. For qualitative analysis date we used comparative analysis of responses and categorization. The results revealed that there is a statically significant improvement in the relationship between affective and cognitive components. Also we defined and described the peculiarities of the metaphorical rephrasing relatively client's problem situation: dialog – monolog; dominant type of representational system; a way of structuring information, received from the client (reflection of the client's emotional state; qualification of the client's situation; assumption about the cause of the problem; offer a solution to the client's problem).
