The phenomenon of far-right populism in today's Federal Republic of Germany within the context of Europe's migration crisis

Объектом данного исследования является германский правый популизм в лице партии «Альтернатива для Германии» (АдГ) и политического движения «Патриотические европейцы против исламизации Запада» (Пегида), а предметом – влияние европейского миграционного кризиса на развитие правого популизма в ФРГ. Целью работы является определение влияния европейского миграционного кризиса 2015 года на правопопулистские силы в ФРГ. Методологическая база данного исследования представлена преимущественно общенаучными методами (сравнение, аналогия, обобщение, индукция, дедукция, абстрагирование). Изучить взаимозависимость между на первый взгляд не связанными событиями автору позволили методы факторного и корреляционного анализа. Первая глава представляет собой общую характеристику популизма и, в частности, правого популизма и основных правопопулистских сил Германии в лице партии АдГ и движения Пегида, определяется их роль в общественно-политической жизни ФРГ до начала кризиса. Во второй главе работы представлен ответ на главный вопрос данного исследования – определяется влияние миграционного кризиса в Европе на подъем германского правого популизма. Для достижения цели автор анализирует миграционный кризис в связке со спровоцированными им трансформациями внутри АдГ и Пегиды, динамику их популярности, мотивацию их сторонников, а также реакцию на «кризис беженцев» со стороны властей, общественности и основных немецких СМИ. Результатом исследования стал вывод о том, что влияние европейского миграционного кризиса на правых популистов ФРГ в лице партии АдГ и движения Пегида было значительным, однако не равнозначным для обеих сил. В случае с Альтернативой для Германии «кризис беженцев» стал для партии своего рода спонсором популярности и внутренних изменений, АдГ в самые короткие сроки аккумулировала поддержку существенной части населения и в 2017 году прошла в парламент. Однако движение Пегида кризис привёл к заметной радикализации и к последующей потере сторонников.

The research paper contains 81 pages. The research object is German right-wing populism represented by the party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the movement Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (Pegida), the subject of study is the influence of European migration crisis on the development of right-wing populism in FRG. The study aims at determining the impact which the European migration crisis of 2015 made on right-wing populism in FRG. The methods of the research are mostly represented by general scientific methods (comparison, analogy, generalization, induction, deduction, abstraction). In order to analyze the interconnectedness between seemingly non-intertwined events, the author resorted to the methods of factor- and correlation analysis. The first chapter of the study focuses on the general characterization of populism and, in particular, right-wing populism. It describes the most prominent right-wing populist forces in Germany represented by the party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the movement Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (Pegida) and determines their role in the socio-political life of FRG before the migration crisis started. The second chapter gives the answer to the main question and the basic aim of the research: it determines the role of the migration crisis in the rise of German right-wing populism. In order to reach this aim the author analyses migration crisis in connection with the transformations which the latter caused to AfD and Pegida, the dynamics of their popularity, the motivation of their adherents and the reaction of the government, general public and mass media to so-called “refugee crisis”. The research has resulted in the conclusion that the impact of the European migration crisis on the German right-wing populists represented by AfD and Pegida was significant, but not equivalent for these political forces. I case of Alternative for Germany the “refugee crisis” has become a kind of sponsor of its popularity and inner changes, in the short term AfD has accumulated the substantial support of electorate and entered the parliament in 2017. On the contrary, the migration crisis has led the movement Pegida to noticeable radicalization and to subsequent loss of its supporters.
