Lexical and grammatical transformations in the translation of newspaper economic texts: A case study of English-Russian translations

Abstract

Магистерская диссертация посвящена изучению особенностей перевода газетных статей экономической тематики. В первой главе рассматриваются понятия газетного и экономического дискурсов, особенности газетно-информационного стиля, специфика перевода газетных экономических статей, а также мнения лингвистов по вопросам переводческих трансформаций и эквивалентности в переводе. Вторая глава представляет исследование и анализ переводческих трансформаций в рамках классификации В.Н. Комиссарова, которая для учета специфики изучаемого материала была дополненна метафорическими трансформациями. Различие стилей и норм ИЯ и ПЯ в рамках исследуемого дискурса ставит перед переводчиком две задачи – адаптировать текст оригинала, идиоматизировать перевод, и точно передать информацию и мнение автора. Для решения данных задач переводчики прибегают к определенным переводческим трансформациям. В ходе исследования удалось выявить проблемы перевода газетно- экономических статей и переводческие трансформации, используемые для преодоления переводческих трудностей.

This MA thesis addresses the translation issues of newspaper economic articles. Chapter I investigates the newspaper and economic discourses, the features of journalistic style, characteristic aspects of economic news translation and Russian and foreign studies of translation transformations and equivalence in translation. Chapter II analyses transformations based on Komissarov’s classification, which was complemented with metaphoric transformations. The usage and stylistic differences of SL and TL within the discourse in question make the translator face two issues: first, the adaptation of the original text and the translation idiomatization; second, the accurate and precise translation of information and of the author’s opinion. To solve these problems, translators use certain transformations. The research identified the translation problems of newspaper economic articles and the transformations used to overcome the translation difficulties.
