Information space of radical communities: A case study of St. Petersburg

Abstract

Современные информационно-коммуникативные технологии открывают огромные возможности для распространения информации, идей и мнений. Они позволяют разрозненным индивидам быстро и эффективно сплачиваться в группы, координировать свои действия и оказывать влияние на жизнь общества. В результате этого взаимодействия происходит процесс, который можно концептуализировать как производство информационного поля или информационного пространства. В данной работе на примере социальной сети ВКонтакте рассматриваются страницы пользователей и сообществ, вовлеченных в информационный поток радикальных политизированных организаций Российской Федерации.

Modern information and communication technologies offer great opportunities for spreading information, ideas and opinions. Because of them single individuals can quickly and efficiently rally into groups, coordinate their actions and change the structure of society. This process is grounded on technological basis and it is filled by data, information and meanings constructed by people. We are conceptualizing this process as the production of an information field or information space. In this paper we are analyzing web-pages and data of users and communities involved in the information flow of Saint-Petersburg radical political movements. Research was committed in social network “VKontakte”.
