Historical memory as a factor in the modern Poland–Germany and Russia–Poland relations: A comparative analysis

Abstract

Данная выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена проблеме влияния фактора исторической памяти на современные отношения между Германией и Польшей, Польшей и Россией. В ходе исследования рассмотрены основные теоретические подходы к изучению феномена исторической памяти, проанализирован процесс становления национальной исторической памяти Польши, Германии и России, выявлены различные интерпретации событий Второй Мировой войны и их историческое влияние на формирование национальной памяти, рассмотрены события 2004-2010 гг. с точки зрения возрождения роли фактора исторической памяти во внешней политике трех государств. В результате исследования автор пришел к выводу о том, что фактор исторической памяти является на данный момент одной из основополагающих проблем, значительным образом влияющей на взаимоотношения Польши с Германией и Россией. С точки зрения исторической памяти, в современных германо-польских отношениях превалирует тематика нацистского прошлого и событий Холокоста, а также событий процесса депортации немцев с территории Польши, в то время как в польско-российских отношениях сложными вопросами на протяжении долгого времени остаются Катынская трагедия и коммунистическое прошлое двух стран.

This graduation qualifying work is devoted to the problem of the influence of the factor of the historical memory in the modern relations between Germany and Poland, Poland and Russia. The study examines the main theoretical approaches to the study of the phenomenon of the historical memory, analyses the process of the formation of the national historical memory of Poland, Germany and Russia, reveals various interpretations of the events of the Second World War and their historical influence on the formation of the national memory, considers the events of 2004-2010 from the point of view of the revival of the role of the factor of the historical memory in the foreign policy of the three states. On the basis of objectives, the author came to the conclusion that the factor of the historical memory is the one of the fundamental problems that significantly affects on the interaction of Poland with Germany and Russia. From the point of view of the historical memory, the subject of the Nazi past and the events of the Holocaust, as well as the events of the deportation of Germans from Poland, prevail in the modern German-Polish relations, whereas the Katyn tragedy and the communist past of Poland and Russia remain as the complex issues in the Polish-Russian relations for a long time.
