Judy Chicago and Mary Kelly's creativity: The problem of female representation in the art of the 1970s

Abstract

Дипломная работа посвящена исследованию и анализу феминистского искусства второй половины 1970-х годов на примере творчества двух ярких представительниц данного направления – Джуди Чикаго и Мэри Келли. Наибольшее внимание в дипломе уделяется двум работам – «Званому ужину» (Джуди Чикаго) и «Послеродовым документам» (Мэри Келли). Несмотря на то, что обе работы были созданы почти в один период, «Послеродовые документы» Мэри Келли теоретики феминистской арт-критики относят к третьему периоду феминистского искусства, в то время как «Званый ужин» Джуди Чикаго – лишь ко второму. Основная часть дипломной работы включает анализ «Послеродовых документов» и «Званого ужина» с точки зрения их художественной ценности, а также интерпретацию данных работ как с точки зрения классического (Зигмунд Фрейд, Жак Лакан), так и феминистского (Лаура Малви, Люси Иригарэй) психоанализа.

The graduation paper is devoted to the research and analysis of the feminist art of the mid to late 1970s on the basis of creativity of two significant artists of this genre of that period – Judy Chicago and Mary Kelly. The most attention in the graduation work is paid to two works – “The Dinner Party” by Judy Chicago and “The Postpartum documents” by Mary Kelly. Despite the fact that these two works were created almost in one period, the theorists of the feminist art refer “The Postpartum documents” to the third period of the feminist art while “The Dinner Party” – only to the second. The main part of the graduation work includes an analysis of “The Postpartum documents” and “The Dinner Party” in terms of their artistic values as well as the interpretation of these works from the point of view of classic (Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan) and feminist (Laura Mulvey, Luce Irigaray) psychoanalysis.
