Russian born globals: Factors influencing the speed and degree of internationalisation

Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify factors that influence the speed and degree of Born Globals internationalisation, on the case of Russian companies. Based on the research field analysis a list of factors was created, and grouped into four sub-categories: internal, external, entrepreneur-specific and network-related. A set of hypotheses was developed and tested on a sample of 30 companies. Level of local industry internationalisation and personal contacts abroad prior to internationalisation were proven to have significant positive influence on the internationalisation speed; perception of domestic market size as sufficient was proven to affect negatively the degree of internationalisation. Theoretical and practical implications of the results have been discussed in the final part of the thesis.
