ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA, (L.) HEYNH. A NEW EXPERIMENTAL PLANT FOR GENETIC INVESTIGATIONS

Abstract

The article is the first survey of the genetics of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh., a plant of the Cruciferae family, that has recently acquired the significance of a plant material for laboratory studies in plant genetics similar to Drosophila in animal genetics. The use of culture of Arabidopsis on aseptic substrata made possible to investigate the biochemical mutations in the higher plants which had been accessible only in micro-organisms. Further investigations are devoted to the natural variability of this species, to its mutations, to the genetical basis of development of morphological and physiological characters and to the heterosis.
