Formation of the Russian signature in the late 17th – mid-18th centuries as illustrated by personal letters from the of the Manuscripts Department collection of the Russian national Library

Abstract

Данная работа посвящена изучению истории развития подписи в России с конца XVII по середину XVIII в. В ходе исследования были рассмотрены существующие подходы к изучению подписей и проанализированы подписи конца XVII – середины XVIII в. Мы также выяснили, когда произошло формирование подписи в ее современной форме и определили происхождение подписей. Первая глава дипломной работы включает историографический обзор барокко как стиля эпохи, развитие графики русского письма конца XVII – первой половины XVIII в. и историю русской подписи. Во второй главе рассматриваются личные письма как источник по изучению подписей, подходы к изучению подписи в судебном и историческом почерковедении и методология исследования. Третья глава – результат анализа подписей и росчерков и их классификация. В качестве основного материала для исследования были использованы материалы личной переписки из собрания Отдела рукописей Российской национальной библиотеки, которые дают ценные сведения о формуляре писем, графике письма автора и его подписи. Однако провести комплексное исследование было бы нельзя без всей полноты источников, использующих подписи, поэтому были исследованы также материалы фондов Российского государственного исторического архива (РГИА) и Российского государственного архива древних актов (РГАДА). Материалы были отобраны по хронологическому принципу: с середины XVII по первую половину XVIII в.

This graduate work is devoted to the study of history of the signatures in Russia from the end of the XVII to the middle of the XVIII century. In the course of the research, the existing approaches to the study of signatures were examined and the signatures of the late 17th - mid-18th century were analyzed. We also found out when the signature was formed in its modern form and determined the origin of the signatures. The first chapter of the graduate work includes a historiographical review of Baroque as the style of the era, the development of the graphics of Russian letter at the end of the XVII - first half of the XVIII century and the history of the Russian signatures. In the second chapter, personal letters are considered as a source for the study of signatures, approaches to the study of signatures in judicial and historical handwriting study and the methodology of the research. The third chapter is the result of the analysis of signatures and strokes and their classification. The materials for personal correspondence from the collection of the Department of Manuscripts of the National Library of Russia were used as the main material for the study. They give valuable information about the form of letters, the graphics of the author's letter and his signature. However, it would be impossible to carry out a comprehensive study without the full number of sources using signatures, therefore, materials from the funds of the Russian State Historical Archive (RSHA) and the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (RSAAA) were also investigated. Materials were selected on a chronological basis: from the middle of the XVII to the first half of the XVIII century.
