The collection of old-printed books at the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery of the 16th - 17th centuries: The history of formation and the reconstruction

Abstract

В данной работе осуществлена попытка максимально полно реконструировать собрание старопечатных книг Тихвинского Успенского монастыря XVI–XVII в. Основываясь на историографии вопроса, охарактеризованы процессы развития московского книгопечатания в XVII в. и становления монастырских библиотек в XVII в. Рассматривается вопрос о причинах возникновения монастырских описей, дана характеристика описей Тихвинского Успенского монастыря, особенно в части развития книжных инвентарей. Проведено отождествление записей в описях с конкретными изданиями и их экземплярами. Осуществлена попытка найти целенаправленный характер формирования библиотеки и определить место Тихвинского собрания в ряду других северорусских монастырей.

In this paper, an attempt was made to reconstruct a collection of old printed books of the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery of the 16th-17th centuries as completely as possible. Issues of the development of Moscow book printing in the 17th century and the establishment of monastery libraries in the 17th century was characterized based on the historiography. The question of the reasons for the origin of the monastic inventories is considered, the characteristics of the inventories of the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery are given, especially in the development of book inventory. Records in inventories identified as concrete editions and their copies. An attempt was made to find a purposeful character of the formation of the library and to determine the place of the Tikhvin collection among other Northern Russian monasteries’ collections.
