The work of Diane Arbus as a subject of philosophical analysis

Abstract

Целью данной квалификационной выпускной работы является философский анализ этических и эстетических аспектов художественного наследия Дианы Арбус, одной из фигур, ознаменовавших переход от творческих установок фотографии 50-х годов XX века к современной документальной и портретной фотографии. Проанализировав исследования творчества Арбус в арт-критике, на примере работ Сьюзен Сонтаг, автор приходит к выводу о неполноте сложившейся трактовки и необходимости ее опровержения и дополнения. Автором предлагается новая трактовка творчества Дианы Арбус, основанная на анализе фотопортрета как результата взаимодействия трех субъектов (фотографа, модели и зрителя).

The goal of this qualification graduation work is philosophical analysis of ethical and aesthetical aspects of Diane Arbus’s artistic heritage, who is one of figures which signed the transition from the creative principles of 1950-s to the contemporary documental and portrait photography. Through the analysis of studies of Arbus’s creations in art criticism based on works of Susen Sontag author comes to a conclusion that the established interpretation is incomplete and needs to be disproved and elaborated. Author suggests an original interpretation of Diane Arbus’s work, which is based on analyzing a portrait as result of interaction of three subjects (photographer, model and spectator).
