The image of Petrograd–Leningrad in the concept of Soviet constructivism in the 1920s – early 1930s

Abstract

Целью выпускной квалификационной работы было выявление образа Петрограда-Ленинграда, сложившегося в концепции советского конструктивизма. В работе были поставлены следующие задачи: выявить концепцию конструктивизма, сложившуюся в кругах архитекторов 1920-х годов, выяснить конструктивистский взгляд на организацию городского пространства, проанализировать градостроительные проекты по реорганизации Петрограда-Ленинграда, проекты зданий и застройки районов, фотографии построек и сами здания, созданные в изучаемый период, выявить черты, отличающие ленинградский конструктивизм от его проявления в других городах. Источниками послужили архитектурные журналы 1920-х – первой половины 1930-х годов, а также опубликованные условия архитектурных конкурсов и проекты. Выпускная квалификационная работа состоит из введения, трёх глав и заключения. Во введении сформулированы цель и задачи работы, актуальность, научная новизна, дан историографический очерк и приведён исторический контекст изучаемого явления. Первая глава «Теоретические положения конструктивизма» посвящена обзору теоретических работ конструктивистов и выявлению сути конструктивизма как художественного и интеллектуального явления. Во второй главе «Градостроительные концепции конструктивизма» производится обзор конструктивистских градостроительных концепций и проектов и формулируется теория существования и организации города, созданная конструктивизмом. Третья глава «Воплощение идей конструктивизма в Петрограде-Ленинграде» посвящена обзору архитектурных настроений Петрограда-Ленинграда в изучаемый период, анализу планов, проектов и построек и попытке выявить образ города, сложившийся в конструктивизме. В заключении озвучены основные выводы к работе и сформулированы перспективы исследования.

The aim of the master's thesis was to identify the image of Petrograd-Leningrad, formed in the concept of Soviet Constructivism. The following tasks were set in the thesis: revealing of the concept of Constructivism that had developed in the circles of architects of the 1920s, elucidating of the constructivist view of the organization of urban space, analysis of town-planning projects for the reorganization of Petrograd-Leningrad, the projects for districts and buildings, photographs of buildings and the buildings themselves In the period under study, to reveal features that distinguish the Leningrad Constructivism from its manifestation in other cities. Architectural journals of the 1920s and the first half of the 1930s, as well as published conditions of architectural competitions and projects were used as sources. The master's thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction, the goal and tasks, the relevance of the research, scientific novelty, a brief historiographic review and the historical context of the phenomenon are formulated. The first chapter "Theoretical provisions of Constructivism" is devoted to a review of the theoretical works of constructivists and the identification of the essence of Constructivism as an artistic and intellectual phenomenon. In the second chapter, "Urban Constructivism Concepts," a review of constructivist town planning concepts and projects is made and a theory of the existence and organization of the city, created by Constructivism, is formulated. The third chapter, "The embodiment of the ideas of Constructivism in Petrograd-Leningrad" is devoted to a review of the architectural trends of Petrograd-Leningrad in the period under study, the analysis of plans, projects and buildings and an attempt to reveal the image of the city that has developed in Constructivism. In conclusion, the main conclusions to the work are outlined and the research prospects are formulated.
