Comparison of current-voltage characteristics in solutions of the NaCl and KCl electrolytes measured by means of stationary and pulse schemes

Abstract

The problem of the reliability and reproducibility of current-voltage characteristics measuring was considered. The electrolytic current-voltage characteristics measured in NaCl and KCl solutions are submitted in this work. These substances were chosen to obtain a symmetrical form of the dependence of the current on the voltage. In the experiment electrodes with the highly varying areas were used. It was demonstrated that at measurements in the direct electric current mode due to electrochemical processes on the electrodes, current amplitude continuously decreases. To reduce the influence of secondary processes, the pulse and periodic scheme of measurements were offered. The duration of the measuring pulse was 8 μs. The repetition rate was 1 kHz. The implementation of a pulse measurement technique I(U) allows to receive the reproducible results both in solutions of chemically pure substances and in complex mixes. The offered method of measurement allows to get the current-voltage characteristics without application of large-sized installations containing hydrargyrum. Refs 12. Figs 5.
