Comparative Analysis of the “Feast in Time of Plague” by A. S. Pushkin and “The City of the Plague” by J. Wilson

Abstract

The article discusses the conceptual differences between the tragedy of A. S. Pushkin “Feast in Time of plague” and its source, that is an excerpt from “The City of the Plague” by J. Wilson. Although the literary works are interrelated, a comparative analysis of the imagery of these works reveals an essential difference: spiritual courage in the face of the death in Pushkin’s work and complete fiasco of a person in Wilson’s. The main differences are reflected in the system of comparative constructions used by the main character. Refs 14.
