The Soviet Raphael: The history of studies and popularization of the works of the Renaissance artist

Abstract

В рамках работы произведён анализ истории отношения к наследию Рафаэля Санти и формирование советской мифологии вокруг него. Опираясь на различные философские, критические тексты, автор стремится раскрыть механизм формирования его «советского» образа. В качестве материала исследования берется литература о Рафаэле, начиная с XIX века и заканчивая современными публикациями и лекциями, а также изображения различных авторов, которые анализировались на основе выделенных критериев. Фокусировка на феномене «Рафаэля советского» не исключает обращения и к примерам из истории изучения других известных художников, что позволяет яснее представить контекст и тенденции развития исследуемого феномена. Особое внимание уделяется особенностям трансформации образа «Сикстинской мадонны» Рафаэля. Сохраняя авторитет в области «гениев искусства», образ Рафаэля проходит через ряд трансформаций: в в работе рассматривается отношения к нему в XIX веке, попытки отрицания наследия прошлого (и в том числе Рафаэля), реабилитация, связанная о становлением социалистического реализма, тиражирование образа «Сикстинской Мадонны». На основе проведенного анализа делается вывод о гибкости образа Рафаэля в истории, так как в каждый период времени представлялось возможным выделять различные черты его образа.

In the framework of this study was made the analysis of the attitude towards Raphael’s legacy and the formation of Soviet mythology around him. Drawing on a variety of philosophical and critical texts, author attempts to reveal the mechanism of formation of his "Soviet" image. As the research material the literature Rafael is explored, since the XIX century to modern publications and lectures, as well as pictures of various authors which were analyzed based on selected criteria. Focus on the phenomenon of "Soviet Rafael" does not exclude recourse to the examples and the history of the study of other famous artists, which allows to clarify idea of the context and development trends of the phenomenon investigated. Particular attention is paid to the transformational peculiarities of the image of "Sistine Madonna" by Raphael. Keeping authority in the field of "geniuses of art", the image of Raphael passes through a series of transformations: in the work relationship to it in the XIX century, attempts to deny the heritage of past (and including Raphael), rehabilitation related to the emergence of socialist realism, replicating the image «Sistine Madonna» are observed. According to the conducted analysis the flexibility of Rafael image in history is stated. since in every period of time was possible to allocate the different aspects of his image.
