The dissolution of the USSR in post-Soviet and contemporary press

Abstract

Актуальность исследования. Сегодня тема освещения распада СССР с каждым днем становится все актуальнее. Исследования этой проблемы развивались параллельно с формированием новой политической и территориальной структуры современной России. Примечательно, что в научных исследованиях большое место отводится поиску причин распада Советского Союза, которые и определяют нынешнее международное положение как России, так и бывших стран-республик. Многие исследователи едины во мнении, что Россия до сих пор переживает период восстановления после падения Советского Союза и задаются вопросом, был ли логичен распад СССР. В современном информационном пространстве до сих пор нет единого мнения на эту проблему как среди исследователей, так и среди журналистов и публицистов. Новизна выпускной квалификационной работы состоит в том, что поиск причин падения Советского Союза рассматривается нами через призму СМИ. Многие исследователи в своих работах анализируют причины и последствия кризиса Советского Союза без достаточной опоры на фактографическую базу, в том числе на материалы СМИ. Также среди сегодняшних исследований не представлены работы, рассматривающие современные взгляды и оценки СМИ на распад СССР. Отслеживание изменений отношения разных стран к распаду СССР помогло определить новые направления в изучении этого вопроса. В процессе исследования были использованы следующие методы: структурно-функциональный, историко-типологический, описательный, сравнительный, контент-анализа. Объектом исследования выступает пресса рубежа 1980 – 1990-х гг. и 2010-х гг., освещающая тему распада СССР, а предметом – динамика, тенденции и методы формирования общественных взглядов на вопрос распада СССР. Целью дипломной работы является выявление основных причин распада СССР в постсоветской прессе и сопоставление этих взглядов с современными точками зрения в СМИ. Для достижения поставленной цели необходимо решить следующие задачи: 1. проанализировать существующие социально-политические концепции распада СССР, определить основные причины падения Союза; 2. проанализировать советскую центральную и республиканскую прессу, освещающую тему распада СССР, определить основные тенденции, повлиявшие на падение Советского Союза; 3. проанализировать современную зарубежную прессу, освещающую тему распада СССР, определить тенденции изменения оценок и взглядов; 4. сопоставить советскую и современную точки зрения по вопросу распада СССР. Теоретическая база исследования сформирована следующими работами: социально-политическими концепциями распада СССР (В. П. Попов, А. П. Шевякин), исследованиями, посвященными истории международных отношений (А. Д. Богатуров., В. А. Ачкасов). Эмпирическая база исследования. В ходе работы были проанализированы выпуски ежедневной газеты «Известия» за период с 1985 по 1993 гг., материалы газеты «Вечерний Душанбе» за 1991 г. Также автор выборочно рассмотрел современную англо-американскую, китайскую и российскую прессу, освещающую тему распада СССР. Автором были проанализированы выпуски газет «The New York Times», «The Washington Post», «The Guardian», «Жэнминь жибао», «Известия» за период с 2012 – 2016 гг. В общей сложности было проанализировано свыше 4000 выпусков газет. Структура дипломной работы включает введение, две главы, заключение, список использованных источников и приложения.

The thematic justification of the study: the characterization of the theme of the collapse of the USSR has become important nowadays. The research has been conducted under terms of formation of a new political and territorial structure of modern Russia. Many scientific research activities are dedicated to the analysis of the causes of the collapse of the Soviet Union as these factors form the modern-time international political situation of Russia and the former Soviet republics. Many researchers have expressed an opinion that Russia is still undergoing a period of recovery after the collapse of the Soviet Union and ask whether or not the fall was logically inevitable. In modern information area among researchers, journalists and political writers do not have unified opinion about this theme yet. Research novelty of the present graduate qualification work is that the search for the causes of the collapse of the Soviet Union is considered through the lens of mass-media. Many of the researchers have analyzed the causes and consequences of the crisis of the Soviet Union without appropriate attention to the factual data including mass-media materials. Also there are no papers dedicated to the examination of modern views and media assessments of the collapse of the USSR among modern research works. The tracking of shift of attitudes relating to the collapse of the USSR in different countries has become the basis for new directions in the study of this matter. During the conduction of the research the following scientific methods were used: structural-functional, historical and typological, descriptive, comparative and content analysis. The object of research is the foreign press dated 1980 – 1990 and 2010's covering the theme of the collapse of the USSR; the subject of research is the dynamics, tendencies and methods of formation of public opinion about the collapse of the USSR. The aim of the present graduate qualification work is to identify the main reasons for the collapse of the USSR stated in the post-Soviet press and to compare these ideas to the modern media views. To achieve this goal it is necessary to accomplish the following tasks: 1. to analyze the existing socio-political conception of the causes of the collapse of the USSR and identify the main reasons for the fall of the Union; 2. to analyze the Soviet central and regional press covering the theme of the collapse of the USSR and state the main tendencies which led to the collapse of the Soviet Union; 3. to analyze the modern-time foreign press covering the theme of the collapse of the USSR and define the main tendencies of changes of the views and media assessments; 4. to compare the Soviet and modern point of view on the collapse of the USSR. Theoretical foundation of this research: works by V. P. Popov and A. P. Shevyakin on socio-political conception of the collapse of the USSR, research on the history of international relationships by A. D. Bogaturov and V. A. Achkasov. Empirical foundation of this research: analyses of the issues of the daily newspaper “Izvestia” from 1985 to 1993, the newspaper “Evening Dushanbe” dated 1991. The author has also selectively studied the modern Anglo-American, Chinese and Russian press covering the theme of the collapse of the USSR. The author has analyzed the issues of the following newspapers: “The New York Times”, “The Washington Post”, “The Guardian”, “People's Daily”, “Izvestia” dated the period from 2012 to 2016. Total amount of analyzed issues of newspapers was over 4000 editions. Structure of the graduate qualification work: introduction, two chapters, conclusion, list of sources, applications.
