Georgian wedding rites in the 19th century

Abstract

Эта ВКР посвящена различным свадебным обрядам горной Грузии и Аджарии в XIX веке. В горных частях Грузии существовали нехарактерные для остальных регионов Грузии обряды.Жители горных районов большую часть года не имели связи с жителям равнины, по причине недоступности горных перевалов. С соседними жителями Северного Кавказа отношения были вражескими (главным образом из-за религиозных противоречий). В Аджарии же существовала мусульманская традиция брачного института, т.к. этот регион находился под властью Османской Империи вплоть до 1878 года. Под влиянием этих аспектов в рассматриваемых регионах сформировались характерные свадебные обряды и обычаи, которую представляют большую ценность для исследователей и всех тех, кто интересуется историей и этнографией Грузии.

This bachelor thesis is devoted to different wedding rites of mountain Georgia and Adjara in the period of the 19th century. In the mountainous parts of Georgia was remained not typical for other areas of the country traditional ceremonies. The inhabitants of mountainous regions most of the year could not contaсt with the inhabitants of the plain regions because of the inaccessibility of mountain passes. With the neighboring North Caucasus dwellers of mountainous regions the relations were enemy (mainly on account of differences in faith). And Adjara has an Islamic tradition of marriage, because this region remained under Ottoman Empire rule until 1878. Under the influence of this aspects in these region were formed original wedding rites and rituals. Which are of great value for researchers and everyone who is interested in Georgian history and ethnography
