The evolution of Japanese foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific region from the 1950s to the 2010s

Abstract

В данной работе рассматривается эволюция внешнеполитических отношений Японии со странами Азиатско-Тихоокеанского региона (АТР), преимущественно с КНР и Южной Кореей. Во время Холодной войны Япония выступала важнейшим союзником США в АТР, однако с течением времени её роль несколько изменилась, и за счёт своей экономической мощи она начала играть более значимую роль в АТР. После окончания Холодной войны и исчезновения угрозы со стороны СССР, внешнеполитическая обстановка в АТР несколько улучшилась. Но даже несмотря на это регион ещё далёк от стабильности, так как существует опасность со стороны КНДР, и конфликт между КНР и Тайванем имеет риск перерасти в горячую фазу. Отношения же Японии со странами региона также не слишком хороши, поскольку территориальные споры и проблемы прошлого до сих пор играют не последнюю роль в отношениях Японии с КНР и Южной Кореей. При этом Япония до сих пор сохраняет роль важного регионального игрока, который через сотрудничество в различных областях поддерживает хорошие отношения со странами АСЕАН и с Австралией.

This paper examines the evolution of Japan's foreign policy relations with Asia-Pacific countries, primarily China and South Korea. During the Cold War, Japan was the most important ally of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region, but its role has changed over time, because of its economic strength that gave it a more important role in the Asia-Pacific region. With the end of the Cold War and the disappearance of the Soviet threat, the foreign policy environment in the Asia-Pacific region has improved somewhat. Even so, the region is still far from stable, as there is a threat from North Korea and the conflict between China and Taiwan risks escalating into a hot phase. Japan's relations with the countries of the region are also not very good, since territorial disputes and problems of the past still play an important role in Japan's relations with China and South Korea. At the same time, Japan still maintains its role as an important regional player, which maintains good relations with ASEAN countries and Australia through cooperation in various areas.
