The Role of the Indigenous Peoples of the Arctic Associations in the Activity of International Organizations in the Arctic Region. Based on the Case of Saami Council

Abstract

В дипломной работе проведено исследование о роли организаций коренных народов в международных отношениях, складывающихся в Арктическом регионе. Автор рассматривает термин «коренные народ», анализируя различные его трактования, принятые в международном праве. Отдельное внимание уделено изучению деятельности Совета саамов, как одной из уважаемых организаций, представляющей интересы коренного населения Крайнего Севера, который успешно реализует различные проекты, способствующие процветанию народа. В работе делается вывод о том, что посредством создания собственных общественных объединений народы получают больше возможностей в вопросах защиты своих прав и решения сложных проблем, требующих внимания арктических государств, а также положительно воздействует на обстановку внутри региона.

In the thesis conducted research on the role of indigenous organizations in international relations in the Arctic region. The author examines the term «indigenous people», analyzing various interpretations adopted in international law. Particular attention is paid to the activities of the Saami Council as one of the respected organizations representing the interests of the indigenous population of the Far North, which has successfully implemented various projects that contribute to the prosperity of the people. The paper concludes that through the creation of their own public associations, people are given more opportunities to defend their rights and solve complex problems that require the attention of the Arctic states, and has a positive impact on the situation inside the region.
